The ideal height for a small-hole type nest box is between 1m and 5m above the ground with a clear flight path. Care must be given to make sure the box isn't.
Select your box. For gardens we would recommend either: Small-hole nest box which is occupied by tit species; Small open fronted box which is used by robins .

Larger versions of these nest boxes can sometimes be used by blackbirds also. Many believe that any type of box, in any location, will attract every species of bird, however that is not the case. Some hole-nesting species, including sparrows, may have second or third broods in the same nest. If still no luck, keep experimenting with different locations until you get success!
