Tho men who have experienced what authorities euphemistically call "enhanced interrogation techniques" have described enduring everything from severe beatings to cruel and unusual psychological torment, such as being deprived of sunlight and fresh air. Ironically, some of the cruelest methods were concocted by psychologists who trained soldiers on how to withstand interrogation by an unscrupulous enemy. A slice of what some of these victims have faced was revealed recently in a leaked Red Cross report , which chronicled modern torture techniques such as simulated drowning, confinement in boxes, blasting with loud music and exposure to extreme temperatures.
